SAISD confirms new superintendent, ending four-month search
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The San Antonio Independent School District now has a new superintendent.
Dr. Adrian Bustillos was confirmed at a regularly scheduled board meeting Monday night. He was named what the district described a “lone finalist” in June, and his confirmation comes after a 21-day waiting period for his official hiring passed.
“My vision is to create a future where every student feels valued, challenged, and inspired, and where innovative learning opportunities, strong community partnerships, and a culture of belonging prepare all students for success in college, career, and life,” said Bustillos.
Dr. Bustillos’ career spans 20 years, beginning as a science teacher and progressing to leadership roles.
Since October 2019, Bustillos has served as the Chief Transformation Officer for Aldine ISD. Prior to that, Bustillos was the Executive Director of the Office of Transformation for El Paso ISD, where he began his career in 2006. He served the district as a science teacher, science facilitator, assistant principal, and high school facilitator before launching the Office of Transformation.
Bustillos holds a bachelor’s degree in biological science from the University of Texas-El Paso and a master’s in school leadership. He received his doctorate in curriculum and instruction from New Mexico State University.
Bustillos will start his duties as superintendent as the school year begins in August.
