95 WIIL ROCK BREAKDOWN 07/21/2026…. Saliva…. Poppy…. L7….
Saliva has released its new single, “Longshot,” featuring Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Johnny Van Zant. The track arrives with an official music video and serves as the latest preview of the band’s upcoming album, Breaking Through, due out August 14 via Judge & Jury Records. The release continues Saliva’s latest chapter under frontman Bobby Amaru, who has led the band since 2011, as the group continues to honor the legacy of late founding guitarist Wayne Swinny while building toward its next studio album.
Poppy was forced to miss her performance at Michigan’s Upheaval Festival after hazardous air quality from Canadian wildfire smoke made it unsafe for her to sing. With the Air Quality Index reportedly exceeding 350 around her set time, her backing band performed an instrumental set while wearing N95 respirator masks beneath their stage masks. In a social media post, Poppy said she was “unable to breathe in those conditions” and praised fans who attended despite the poor air quality. Festival organizers said they were monitoring conditions with local officials and expected air quality to improve as the day went on.
L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has died at the age of 59 following a battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. The pioneering feminist rock band’s members announced her passing in a heartfelt statement, remembering Finch as a “true original” whose creativity, humor and fierce spirit helped shape L7’s legacy. After revealing her diagnosis earlier this month, Finch stepped away from the band’s farewell tour and asked her bandmates to continue without her. A GoFundMe campaign launched to support her care raised more than $375,000, with donations from fellow artists including members of Bad Religion, Garbage, Pearl Jam, Tool, Korn and Green Day. Formed in 1985, L7 became one of the defining bands of the grunge era with hits including “Pretend We’re Dead” and reunited in 2015 after a lengthy hiatus.
