Trail Blazers, City Of Portland, ‘Very Far Apart’ In Latest Moda Center Talks, Per The Athletic

Jason Quick of The Athletic published a piece Sunday detailing a response from the Trail Blazers to the City of Portland’s recent term-sheet submission, and it is not promising.

The franchise and the city are “very far apart” in negotiations to renovate Moda Center, per the piece, citing a pair of sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The city’s submission late last week included $600 Million in public funds for a 20-year lease agreement that also requests an annual $3 Million from the Blazers for a property tax offset.

The Blazers are not taking the term sheet seriously, per Quick.

“The term sheet is a non-starter,” the source said. “I don’t know why they sent it to us, because they know very little of the stuff we would agree to. They are playing politics at this point.”

Quick reports the Blazers board of directors will meet Monday to discuss the next course of action.

The current lease for the Blazers at Moda Center runs through 2030.
